3D Secure

The objective of 3D Secure is to assure that the person making the purchase is the legitimate cardholder.  The issuer bank authenticates the cardholders by their password and it is verified by the issuer.  If the cardholder later denies the transaction, it is a matter for the issuer bank and the cardholder to resolve without involving the merchant.
